After 16 days on the ocean, and about 5 days travel added to this, it was a long trip to say the least. But it was memorable and a once in a lifetime experience. We arrived in Miami atound 5:30 AM and I was up at that time. I received a pot of coffee and was able to sit and enjoy our coming into our final port.
Interestingly, there was a large barge that attached to our port side. I still don’t know what the function of this barge was, either fuel or perhaps removing wastes.
I was able to met good friends for dinner in Miami and we went to Patagonia Steakhouse. The steak was just delicious, but huge amounts of food with the rissotto, I couldn’t finish my plate. They did serve wonderful empanadas, and we had chicken in ours.
I made reservations at the Miami International Airport Hotel, which was a big mistake. We were disembarked before 9 AM, and I arrived at the hotel at 9:30. I was told checkin was at 3 PM, so I had 6 hours to waste. Trying to find another hotel in Miami was impossible, all were filled. I should have listened to my travel agent, who was clear about not knowing anything about or having any experience with the hotel. I rarely make such statements, but the hotel was a dump! It had either been a prison or a college dormitory in the past, not sure which. But I have stayed in worse, believe it or not, so I was able to make due.
The Miami airport has got to be on the list of the 10 worst airports in the world. Nothing but confusion and disorganiation. I have never had a flight on time out of Miami. So we boarded late, I arrived in Charlotte just about the time I would have boarded for Lexington. I was told there were no flights from Charlotte to Lexington that afternoon, and that I had to wait until Sunday. Fortunately, the Admirals Club saved me again, flying me to Louisville. Unfortunately, I had to get a car from Louisville to Lexington at an extra cost. I will make sure to do my best to never fly into or out of Miami again!
However, I was able to arrive home on Saturday with my bags and got a good nights sleep. So ends my adventures at sea.
